The Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, has announced that a "green hydrogen" production complex will commence construction in Uzbekistan in August this year. Reportedly, this initiative is a collaboration between ACWA Power of Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy, and Uzkimyosanoat company.
The complex will employ alternative energy sources to produce hydrogen, which will reduce the carbon footprint of the chemical industry and contribute to decarbonizing the economy.
The projected capacity of the complex is 3,000 tons of hydrogen per year, with construction based on the ammonia plant in Chirchik.
ACWA Power will also begin producing environmentally friendly ammonia, estimated to save 600mn cubic meters of gas annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5mn tons.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the foundation stone of this project in August to signal the acceleration of progress.
