In Urgench, Uzbekistan, a significant drug smuggling attempt was foiled when a man arriving from St. Petersburg was caught with a substantial amount of illegal substances concealed among sweets. On July 20, the press service of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan reported that the man had 175 grams of heroin and 405 grams of hashish hidden in cellophane bags and wrapped as candy.
The operation to apprehend him was successful, thanks to the collaboration of customs officers from the Khorezm region, along with the State Security Service (SSS) and the Internal Affairs Department (UVD). In total, 26 packages of drugs were found in his luggage.
The man's arrest was made while he was attempting to hand over the narcotics to another individual, indicating his involvement in a larger drug distribution network. This arrest has led to the initiation of a criminal case, and the investigation is currently ongoing to uncover more details about the smuggling operation and identify potential accomplices.
