The Ministry of Ecology conducted a press tour in Tashkent on July 18, inviting mass media and bloggers to learn about waste management efforts in the country. During the tour, participants were introduced to various waste management facilities, including a waste processing enterprise in the Yangihayot district, a waste transportation station in the Yunusabad district, and a waste landfill in Akhangaran.
The press tour also shed light on the government's commitment to enhancing environmental protection measures. Through a presidential decree, the penalties for violating ecological requirements related to waste collection, transportation, disposal, and more will be strengthened. By September 1, 2023, administrative fines for such violations will be increased by tenfold. Legal entities may also face financial fines ranging from $2,844 to $8,534.
Furthermore, the decree outlines specific exemptions and procedures for organizations involved in medical waste management. Until January 1, 2026, these organizations will be exempted from paying customs fees (excluding value-added tax and customs clearance fees) for importing special equipment, technological equipment, spare parts, and components not produced within the country, based on approved lists.
By January 1, 2025, a centralized system for waste collection and storage from medical, veterinary, and pharmaceutical establishments will be established, with sector organizations handling the collection and storage, while sanitary cleaning enterprises will handle removal and disposal activities. These initiatives aim to strengthen waste management practices and environmental protection in Uzbekistan.
Earlier, it was reported that at the same press tour, the participants were introduced to challenges faced by the ProfPack waste processing facility in Tashkent's Yangihayot district.
