Ford plant in Missouri was temporarily shut down on July 18 due to a reported possible threat, as per the Clay County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. local time when police received a call about a man claiming to be armed with explosives, a rifle, and a handgun who had barricaded himself in a bathroom.
During a press conference, law enforcement officials stated that the man provided a fake name but was able to correctly identify a supervisor at the plant. The identity of the individual is currently unknown. Complicating the situation, the call reporting the threat came from a spoofed number, making it challenging for authorities to verify the information.
As a precautionary measure, the Ford assembly plant in Claycomo was evacuated, and production was suspended for the evening. The facility, which spans approximately 5mn square feet, required the assistance of additional tactical teams from the region to conduct a thorough search and clear the premises.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office's Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team conducted an initial search but was unable to locate anyone in the area specified by the suspect. Negotiators and response teams from various law enforcement agencies remained on-site, taking the threat seriously and treating it as legitimate until proven otherwise.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and there is no evidence of gunfire or the presence of weapons, the sheriff's office reported. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of the Ford plant and its employees.
