From 2019 to 2022, the number of incarcerated individuals in Uzbekistan nearly tripled, according to reports from the Supreme Court.
In 2019, there were 6,955 individuals in custody, while in 2022, this number rose to 17,610 citizens.
Additionally, the number of serious crimes has increased. In 2019, there were 376 cases of intentional homicide and 154 cases of rape recorded. In 2022, these numbers reached 422 and 170, respectively.
It is worth noting that from 2018 to 2022, along with the beginning of 2023, Uzbekistan handed down 11 life sentences.

- In the Tashkent region, five individuals received life sentences.
- In Tashkent city, two individuals received life sentences.
- In the Jizzakh region, two individuals received life sentences.
- In the Kashkadarya region, one individual received a life sentence.
- In the Fergana region, one individual received a life sentence.
The most recent life sentence in Uzbekistan was issued in May of 2023. It was given to a man who committed the heinous acts of rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl.
At the beginning of 2023, Uzbekistan ranked 99th out of 136 in the ranking of countries in terms of crime, according to the World Population Review. Some of the lowest crime rates in the world are observed in Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Japan and New Zealand.
