The ruins of an ancient city from the 7th-8th centuries BC have been discovered near the village of Mingtepa in the Samarkand region, media reports.
The city was surrounded by defensive walls and was located at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road.
Some 40 hectares of the Mingtepa upland have been preserved and excavated, revealing ceramic objects, architectural monuments, and other historical finds, including coins and wooden items.
The research is being conducted in collaboration with foreign specialists, including those focused on the history and culture of Turkic peoples.
The scientific team aims to preserve and make accessible to the public the ancient city of Mingtepa as a heritage site and future tourist attraction.
