The criminal case involving journalists allegedly associated with the Telegram channel Kompromatuzb, where compromising materials about officials were published or reported, began its consideration in the Shaykhantakhur District Criminal Court of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on July 18. Judge Tolibjon Obidov, at the request of the defendants, decided to hold the proceedings in closed court, Gazeta.uz has reported.
Closed court proceedings are typically used for cases involving crimes committed by individuals under the age of 18 or for other cases where the disclosure of personal information or information that could harm their honor and dignity needs to be prevented. It is also used in cases where the interests of ensuring the safety of victims, witnesses, or other participants in the case, as well as their family members or close relatives, require it.
The defendants in the case include journalist and director of Human.uz publication Khurshid Daliev, press secretary of the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction Mavzhuda Mirzaeva, press secretary of Uzbekneftegaz company Siyavush Khoshimo, and citizen Ahmadullo Akhmadjonov. According to the indictment, the case involves 19 victims and 10 civil plaintiffs, with damages estimated at $543,000.
Among them are former Minister of Employment and Labor Relations and the First Deputy Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction Nozim Khusanov (who left the post in April), former director of the Agency for External Labor Migration Afzal Irmakov (detained in March), Director-General of the Uzbekchovqanatl Agency under the State Committee of Veterinary and Livestock Bahitior Atamuradov, press secretary of the Governor of Samarkand region Manuchekhr Mirzaev, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs and Innovations at the Bukhara Engineering and Technological Institute Mirzo Sharipov, Director of CIBGROUP company Uygur Tursunkhodjaev, and others.
