The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Deputy Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic, Shukhrat Aitiev, along with OSCE representative Teresa Ribeiro, have discussed the implementation of a new project for journalists in Kyrgyzstan. The focus of the project is to address issues related to the rights of citizens to freedom of speech and expression.
The parties recognized the challenges faced by media representatives in accessing information, with state bodies often denying journalists official and reliable information about their activities. In response, the OSCE plans to launch a new program called "Safety of Journalists" aimed at providing training to reporters and media professionals in Kyrgyzstan. The program aims to bridge the information gap and equip journalists with the skills to obtain objective data on specific events.
Shukhrat Aitiev emphasized that the Ombudsman's Institute is committed to upholding the rights and ensuring the safety of journalists, in line with its mandate. The discussions between the OSCE and the Deputy Ombudsman highlight their shared goal of promoting press freedom and protecting journalists in Kyrgyzstan.
