President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, by a decree issued on June 14, made amendments to previous decisions "in connection with the determination of additional measures for the systematic organization of leisure and further improvement of children's health activities", Gazeta.uz reports.
According to the amendments, the recreational areas "Sidjak" and "Chatkal" have been excluded from the list of state assets that have been attempted to be privatized since 2021. Currently, "Sidjak" is under the ownership of the 124th boarding school, and selling or changing the activities of the facility is prohibited. "Chatkal" has been transferred to the ownership of the Federation of Trade Unions. "Sidjak," occupying an area of 5.4 hectares, was put up for auction in April 2021, April and October 2022, but the facility was not sold. The site includes a sports facility, hotel, three pools, an amphitheater, cottages, and other buildings. The facility was valued at 70 bn Uzbekistani soms. Previously, the recreational area belonged to the daughter of the first President of Uzbekistan, Gulnara Karimova, and was turned into state revenue by court order. The plan was to transfer the facility to sports organizations and create a training base for the Uzbekistan Football Association's national teams, as indicated in the decree of the President of Uzbekistan dated March 16, 2018.
In December 2019, by the decree of the president on taking football to a new stage of development, this provision of the document became invalid, and the training center for national teams was instructed to be created in the village of Yangibazar Yucorichirchik district of the Tashkent region.
In July 2019, it became known that "Sidjak" was planned to be transferred for free use to the Uzbekistan Triathlon Federation. However, in June 2020, it was decided to privatize the asset.
The recreational area "Chatkal," designated for privatization in the summer of 2021, was also attempted to be sold three times. In October, the lot was auctioned for 12.2 bn Uzbekistani soms, and in November, the State Assets Management Agency announced a tender for its purchase.
