A remarkable equestrian expedition, "From Bozok to Ulytau'' has been underway, as participants explore the sacred sites and delve into the historical and cultural heritage of the Golden Horde period in the Akmola, Karagandy region, and Ulytau regions.
The expedition commenced on June 10, coinciding with the celebration of two momentous anniversaries: the 25th anniversary of research on the Bozok medieval settlement and the 30th anniversary of TURKSOY, the International Organization of Turkic Culture.
During the expedition, the participants had the opportunity to visit several villages, including Kulanotpes, Bestamak, Tkenekty, and Shubarkol. In these locations, they engaged with local residents and shared captivating stories about the medieval settlement of Bozok. The Bozok settlement, discovered in 1998 by the renowned archaeologist Kimal Akishev on the eastern shore of Lake Buzukty, southwest of Astana, holds immense historical significance.
The primary objective of the expedition is to raise awareness and popularize the intangible cultural heritage of Kazakhstan. One of the members of the expedition, Didar Oralbekuly emphasized its purpose.
“Horse expedition to sacred places of Kazakhstan is aimed at uniting two monuments of the Middle Ages – Bozok and Ulytau and the development of ecological tourism. It was organized by the Bozok state historical and cultural museum-reserve,” Didar Oralbekuly explained.
The Bozok settlement is an extraordinary archaeological site that provides valuable evidence of the formation and evolution of steppe civilization. Spanning various eras, including the Botai culture, the Bronze Age, the Early Iron Age, the Golden Horde period, and the Kazakh Khanate, the site showcases remnants of nomadic lifestyles and the ancient caravan routes of the Great Silk Road.
The expedition's conclusion will be marked by the symbolic passing of the baton from Kazakhstan to Bozok of Türkiye, a city in the southeastern part of Türkiye renowned for its rich history and culture. This exchange further underscores the shared heritage and historical ties between the two regions.
The "From Bozok to Ulytau" equestrian expedition not only serves as an educational and exploratory journey but also plays a vital role in preserving and promoting Kazakhstan's cultural legacy. By bringing attention to these sacred sites and historical treasures, the expedition contributes to the development of sustainable and eco-friendly tourism in the region.
