France, the world's most visited country, aims to tackle excessive tourism by implementing alternative routes and launching a social media campaign as part of its national plan, Euronews reports.
The government plans to relieve pressure on the most popular tourist attractions, which are concentrated in only one-fifth of the country's territory. Their objective is to encourage visitors to explore other regions and distribute tourist flows more evenly throughout the year.
The Minister Delegate for Tourism, Olivia Gregoire, said that to solve the problem of excessive tourism, the authorities "catastrophically lack data", and therefore, at the beginning of next year, the national observatory of the main tourist sites will start working to create an information base and develop indicators that will help analyze tourist flows and make decisions.
