Former Minister of Culture of Kazakhstan, Arystanbek Mukhamediuly, has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for embezzling $345,000 from the "Golden Man's Journey through World Museums" project, SputnikKZ reports.
After the verdict was announced, relatives attempted to snatch the convicted minister from custody.
Arystanbek Mukhamediuly was arrested in May of 2022. He was charged with abuse of power and embezzlement of a particularly large amount of money allocated for the international exhibition "The Golden Man's Journey through World Museums" and other projects of the National Museum.
The damage to the state was estimated at almost $16mn.
