Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he has good and strong relations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, although he hasn't spoken to him in a long time, Fox News reports.
"I have very good relations with Putin. I haven't spoken to him in a while, but I have a very strong relationship with Putin," the politician says.
Trump suggested that Putin would not have started a war in Ukraine if he had remained in the position of the US President.
The American politician also added that the Russian president was told that if he decides to engage in armed actions, there would be "serious consequences," and it would turn into a catastrophe.
"Putin didn't believe what I said. Well, actually, only 10% believed," Trump said. According to the former President of the United States, one fine day he may bring Moscow and Kyiv to an agreement.
"If we had started, I would have made a deal within 24 hours. I would have said something to Zelensky, and I would have said something to Putin. I would have taken him into a room, and I would have talked to him again and again," Trump said.
Russia initiated a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Vladimir Putin referred to its objective as "protecting people who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years." He stated that the special operation was a necessary measure, as Russia "had no other choice due to the security risks that made it impossible to respond through alternative means."
