Employees of the state enterprise Institute of Mineral Resources at the University of Geological Sciences in the Vakhshivar section of the Surhantau mountain discovered a new mineral structure rich in malachite.
The discovery was made during fieldwork as part of the state project "Cosmogeological Researches of Scale 1:100 Thousand in the Territory of South Uzbekistan."
The newly identified structure shows promise for gold and polymetals, and its duration is currently being studied.
As per Dentons report, Uzbekistan holds the fourth-largest gold reserves in the world and ranks 12th globally in terms of mining. Uzbekistan's mining industry is only second to Russia among the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. The Central Asian country is among the top 15 nations with significant uranium and copper reserves.
The State Geology Committee (GeoCom) reported in 2018 that only 20% of Uzbekistan's land had been explored, with an estimated mineral resource value of US$5.7bn.
