Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed skepticism towards former US President Donald Trump's promises to swiftly end the war in Ukraine if he were to return to the White House, NBC reports.
Despite Trump's repeated assertions that he could resolve the conflict within 24 hours, Zelensky questioned why Trump hadn't taken action earlier and stated his disbelief in Trump's ability to stop the war, emphasizing that no individual could easily engage in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt the hostilities.
Furthermore, Zelensky criticized the Republicans' stance on potential reductions in military aid to Ukraine, considering such discussions a significant threat to the country, although he believed they would not materialize.
Last autumn, Trump announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2024 and pledged to address the Ukrainian conflict even before his inauguration if elected. He consistently emphasized the need for peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv while criticizing the actions of current US President Joe Biden towards Ukraine, suggesting that they may inadvertently lead to a third world war.
