German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has integrated the ChatGPT chatbot into its vehicles, TechRadar has reported.
ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, has made its way into the automotive industry with Mercedes-Benz becoming the first car manufacturer to integrate the chatbot into its vehicles. Mercedes-Benz has introduced ChatGPT into its cars through the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system, allowing users to interact with the AI platform using voice commands.
Through the MBUX system, the users can now ask ChatGPT various questions while simultaneously setting a destination for their route. The chatbot responds to queries either verbally or in text format, providing users with relevant information and assistance making their journeys easy and comfortable.
Mercedes-Benz representatives Representatives of Mercedes-Benz emphasized that the new service is built on the Microsoft Azure OpenAI infrastructure. The technology provides "a high level of security, privacy, and reliability" for the users. Microsoft engineers cannot access users' voice requests, experts say, ensuring the customers of their privacy.
The new service has been launched as part of a beta test in the United States, with approximately 900,000 vehicles equipped with MBUX participating in the program. This allows Mercedes-Benz to gather valuable insights from car owners regarding the performance and usability of ChatGPT while driving.
The beta test phase is scheduled to conclude in September, after which Mercedes-Benz will evaluate the effectiveness of ChatGPT in providing accurate and reliable information to car owners. Based on the results, further improvements and adjustments may be made before the service is shut down for more evaluation.
Although initially available only to car owners in the United States, Mercedes-Benz has expressed its intention to expand the chatbot support to other regions around the world in the future.
