In a shocking turn of events, Serik Kudebayev, the former head of the police department in the Almaty region has fled to Kyrgyzstan through an underground tunnel as per the Prosecutor General's Office. The Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Jandos Umiraliyev, contacted Daryo's correspondent in Kazakhstan with this information.
Umiraliyev stated that the fugitive general did not cross the border post.
"Serik Kudebayev was apprehended and the case was sent to court. Based on the evidence gathered, it has been confirmed that he crossed the border through Kazakhstan's Kegen region by utilizing a tunnel situated at the border carrying a metal fence," explained Umiraliyev.
Also, Kudebayev was brought to the border in a car, but the driver was not prosecuted because he was unaware of the general’s true intentions.
It should be noted that on April 3, 2023, the former head of the police department in the Almaty region failed to appear in court and was put on an international wanted list.
The National Security Committee of the border service confirmed that Serik Kudebayev did not officially cross the border.
Consequently, on April 12, the Prosecutor General's Office initiated a criminal case against Kudebayev for the unlawful crossing of the state border. As the investigation progressed, it was eventually discovered that Kudebayev had managed to escape to Turkey through Kyrgyzstan, adding an international dimension to the case.
