On June 10, an explosion caused by leftover ammunition from the war occurred in an open field near Coriolei, Somalia. At least 25 children were killed, and several others sustained injuries, Xinhua reports.
The incident occurred in an open field where children often play, and the explosion was caused by old bombs let over from the war. All of the victims were boys between the ages of 10 and 15.
The bodies of 22 children were taken to the local hospital, while two more children passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital. One child was transferred to a hospital in the capital city of Mogadishu for further medical care but unfortunately did not survive the journey.
Prior to this incident, Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, had already experienced a terrorist attack in which more than 100 people were affected. The attack involved powerful explosions near the Ministry of Education building, which is situated in a busy intersection.
In a separate event in November, terrorists seized a hotel in Mogadishu, resulting in the loss of numerous lives. Drones were deployed, and special forces were engaged in the operation to free the captured building.
