While residents in South Korea received and emergency alert regarding the launch of a North Korean rocket, activities of North Korean residents living near the inter-Korean border area went on as usual on Wednesday (May 31).
The launch on Wednesday ended in failure, sending the booster and payload plunging into the sea, North Korean state media said.
Dozens of people at a farming village in North Korea were seen working outside on Wednesday morning. It was not clear whether they had heard the news about the satellite launch.
The new "Chollima-1" satellite launch rocket failed due of instability in the engine and fuel system, state news agency KCNA reported.
It prompted emergency alerts and brief evacuation warnings in parts of South Korea and Japan. The notices were withdrawn with no danger or damage reported.
