The Frankfurt-Main court found illegal the searches of a number of real estate in Germany and the yacht "Dilbar", allegedly related to the investigation against Alisher Usmanov.
This was reported to the lawyers of the "HAUVAYLER I ZAUTER" law office. This decision was made on May 12, 2023. The Frankfurt-Main Regional Court found four warrants that authorized prosecutors and police to conduct searches illegally and canceled them without the right to appeal.
The lawyers stated that the conclusions of the appeals court confirm the points they have repeatedly expressed to the federal government, namely: the actions of the German investigative authorities against Alisher Usmanov are not objectively based and actually have a political tone:
"We hope that the Federal Republic of Germany will compensate for the damage caused as a result of illegal investigative actions, and also send explanations regarding the recognition of the illegality of all the immediate measures taken to the press publications, which were previously informed about these events.
A number of popular media outlets have already commented on these events. In particular, the Spiegel newspaper noted in its material that according to the court's conclusion, the prosecutor's office could not substantiate Usmanov's initial suspicion of money laundering. In addition, the court criticized the fact that the sources used by the prosecutor's office were not objectively checked and were baseless assumptions. The court also criticized a number of gross clerical errors in the search warrant.
Alisher Usmanov's representative also welcomed the fair decision of the German court:
"It was clear to us from the beginning that there was no legal basis for this investigation, just as the political nature of this criminal prosecution did not arouse suspicion. The court's conclusions emphasize that the accusations were completely baseless and once again raise the question of the feasibility and justification of large-scale investigative measures involving the press paid for by German taxpayers. We hope that the persecution of Usmanov will be stopped in Germany."
