Deputy of the Russian State Duma, Konstantin Zatulin, was not allowed to enter Kazakhstan due to his criticism of the country, "Orda.kz" reports.
Zatulin was not wanted but faced difficulties until the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs intervened and resolved the issue.
His criticism was in response to a statement by Kazakh President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev in June 2022, where Tokayev expressed his refusal to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, which are occupied by Russia.
The Russian deputy voiced his opinion, stating that Russia's allies treat cooperation selectively and that certain regions in Kazakhstan have little connection to the country. He emphasized that territorial issues can be avoided with friendship, cooperation, and partnership, citing the example of Ukraine.
Zatulin also commented on Kazakh banks' refusal to work with Mir cards, considering it a risky move given Western sanctions. His remarks were deemed unfriendly and provocative by the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
