NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana issued a warning to China, urging them not to provide military assistance to Russia during the Ukrainian army's preparations for a counterattack.
In an interview with "Voice of America," Geoana stated that although they haven't seen any signs of China supplying arms to Russia yet, discussions regarding this matter are ongoing. He emphasized the seriousness of China's decision, as it would have far-reaching implications for NATO and global relations.
Geoane unequivocally condemned Russia as the aggressor in the Ukrainian conflict and expressed support for Ukraine's accession to NATO, asserting that Russia should not have the power to veto the future of countries like Ukraine and Georgia.
He emphasized that decisions regarding a nation's destiny should rest with its people and elected leaders, not external forces. Joane dismissed the notion that Russia would never be surrounded by NATO due to its vast land area. He noted that the front line in Ukraine is dynamic, with indications of a potential Ukrainian counter-offensive to retake territories west of Bakhmut.
However, he acknowledged the risk of a significant counterattack from Russia, given its military capabilities.
