President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 6 inked the law 'On amendments and additions to certain legal documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan.'
According to the amendment to the Law 'On Self-Governing Bodies of Citizens':
- Self-governing bodies of citizens are not part of the system of state authorities and independently solve issues of local importance based on the interests of citizens, historical characteristics of development, as well as national values, local customs, and traditions under the law.
According to the amendments made to the Election Code:
- Citizens whose convictions for severe crimes have not been completed or whose convictions have not been removed may not be members of regional, district, city, district, and precinct election commissions;
- If the President calls for an election of the President of Uzbekistan before the deadline, the referendum will be held within two months in full compliance with this Code. In this case, the deadlines for preparation for the election and implementation of measures for its holding are determined by the Central Election Commission;
- In the event of the dissolution of the Legislative Chamber by the President, the election of the deputies of the Legislative Chamber shall be held within three months in full compliance with this Code.
In the case of a decision on self-dissolution by the Legislative Chamber, the election of deputies of the Legislative Chamber will be held within two months in full accordance with this Code. If the President of Uzbekistan dissolves the Senate, the election of Senate members will be held within three months in full compliance with this Code.
If the Senate decides to dissolve itself, the election of the members of the Senate will be held within one month in full compliance with this Code.
