Lake Sudochye (Karakalpakstan), has been included in the list of Wetlands of International Importance of the Ramsar Convention, as part of the official visit of the delegation of Uzbekistan to Switzerland.
Musonda Mumba, seventh secretary general of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, handed over the certificate to the Minister of Natural Resources, Aziz Abduhakimov.
The Secretary supported Uzbekistan's initiative to develop a strategy for the preservation of Ramsar sites and expressed her readiness to cooperate.
At the end of the meeting, Mrs Mumba mentioned three major UN events to be held in Samarkand - the 21st meeting of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 21), the 14th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP -14). She was also invited to the 25th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) session.
