At the recent Senate plenary session on May 3, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Jusipbek Kazbekov announced a new digitalization project to catalog trees across Uzbekistan. The project will be carried out in three stages to increase the greenery level from 8% to 30%.
Senator Manzura Salimova inquired about the tree inventory, to which Kazbekov responded that the work in this direction has already begun and will be implemented in three stages.
In the first stage, the Green Index will be determined with the help of artificial satellites. This method will be tested in the Syr Darya region.
The second stage involves working with the Cadastral Agency to produce aerial imagery. Kazbekov noted that 6,000 photos of the Syr-Darya region have already been received in 3D format, and work is underway to determine the types of trees.
The third stage involves carrying out an inventory of trees with the help of field studies. Inventorying trees in Syr Darya took four months and required significant resources and time. Therefore, a new decree is being prepared on the Ministry of Natural Resources transformation, where the exact dates and means will be specified.
Jusipbek Kazbekov also highlighted the importance of integrating the ministries of Nature and Construction to create a comprehensive database to warn against unsuitable construction on specific lands due to vegetation.
