At the annual "Freedom Debate" event at the Nauman Foundation in Berlin, Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya indicated that Belarus' independence is critical for Ukraine to win the conflict with Russia since the destiny of the two countries is inextricably linked, DW reports.
She highlighted that freedom in Belarus is necessary for Ukraine to be safe, as there is no free Belarus without a free Ukraine. Tikhanovskaya showed satisfaction with the hundreds of Belarusian volunteers fighting for Ukraine and revealed that a minimum of 18 of these soldiers had died while protecting Ukraine, regardless of Belarus remaining a recognized Russian supporter.
Tikhanovskaya also emphasized the exploits of Belarusian railway partisans, who committed out 80 sabotage measures to block Russian soldiers in 2022 alone. She stated that the Lukashenko dictatorship, which aids Russia's genocidal war, should be separated from the citizens of Belarus, who are fighting aggressive imperialism alongside Ukrainians.
In spite of being condemned in absentia to 15 years in jail by the Minsk City Court in early March, Tikhanovskaya is devoted to guiding her nation toward a democratic future and utilizing all available measures to free political detainees, despite her own sentence.
