Representatives of Sweden's Foreign Ministry intend to visit Uzbekistan this year. This was announced in a meeting of Uzbekistan’s delegation chaired by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Sodiq Safoev, and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Sweden Jan Knutsson, Dunyo reports. The meeting in Stockholm discussed the content of the constitutional reform in Uzbekistan and the current state and prospects of Uzbek-Swedish cooperation. The sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues.
Jan Knutsson welcomed the first official visit of an Uzbek high-level delegation to the kingdom since the opening of the Uzbek Embassy in Stockholm. In his opinion, this step is essential for further developing and strengthening bilateral political and inter-parliamentary dialogue.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to lay the groundwork for a visit of the Swedish Foreign Ministry to Uzbekistan in 2023.
Sweden and Uzbekistan have maintained diplomatic relations since Uzbekistan gained independence in 1991. As a result, the two countries have cooperated in trade, education, and culture. In recent years, there has been an increase in Swedish companies investing in Uzbekistan, particularly in telecommunications, energy, and transportation.
