China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co., Ltd. (CET) has agreed to construct high-voltage transmission lines and substations in Uzbekistan under the deal inked by Uzbek Energy Minister Jorabek Mirzamahmudov and President of CET Yu Jun, media reports. According to the agreement, CET will implement this project in design, construction, and financing and provide turnkey delivery of the transmission lines and substations.
CET is China's leading electricity supplier, serving 1.1bn people in its 26 provinces. It participates in constructing and maintaining high-voltage and low-voltage power lines, substations, and generating capacities. The company operates in more than 40 countries in Asia, Africa, South America, the Middle East, Europe, and other regions.
Earlier this year, several large energy companies from China and Turkiye won an international tender from "National Electric Network of Uzbekistan" to construct high-voltage transmission networks in Tashkent and Syr Darya region. In particular, Şa-ra Enerji Inşaat Ticaret, ve Sanayi A.Ş. from Turkey, will build a 213-kilometer-long power transmission line worth $31.89mn. At the same time, the Chinese company Xian Electric Engineering will install a 500 kV transmission line with a length of 72 km at the cost of $14.68mn.
Uzbekistan produces 73.8% of its electricity from natural gas reserves, followed by hydropower (21.4 %). The country was also striving to develop and produce solar energy, becoming the first country in Central Asia to do so.
