Wholesale prices of fresh onions in Uzbekistan have declined by 50% within the last week, as a result of a boost in local supplies, EastFruit reports.
This has also had an impact on the cost of last year's onion harvest, resulting in a 17% drop in wholesale prices. When compared to other nations, wholesale costs for fresh onions in Uzbekistan are 2.8 times cheaper than in Georgia but more expensive than in Tajikistan. The current price of onions accounts for $0.35 per kilogram while being $0.70 a week before.
Earlier, in reaction to the price hike and to protect food safety, the authorities of Uzbekistan put a temporary ban on onion exports, which was removed on March 15.
