Shymkent doctors performed an unusual surgery: removed a giant echinococcal cyst from the child’s brain, media reports. The boy complained of persistent headaches. As a result of the examination, doctors diagnosed brain hydatidosis. This is a relatively sporadic disease, especially among children. The brain of the child was infected with parasites.
According to the doctors, up to 15 tapered worms were extracted from the child's brain. The cyst grew to a decent size: 15 cm long and 10 cm wide.
The surgery lasted for two hours. The patient was in the intensive care unit for two days and then was transferred to a hospital ward. A week later, the child was released home. Nevertheless, he is under medical control.
In April, a 10-year-old boy entered the city children’s clinical hospital. In a planned order, the child was operated on, and the worm cyst of echinococcus was removed. The diagnosis was revealed using an MRI. The child had a headache, Samat Kokshikbayev, neurosurgeon of the city children’s clinical hospital, told the media.
