India has canceled the manufacturing license of Marion Biotech. In January this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned against using two cough syrups by Marion Biotech, claiming they were substandard. In its turn, Marion Biotech denied the allegations.
On March 22, Uttar Pradesh state authorities said they were 'permanently' canceling the company's license.
The recent measure against Marion Biotech came after a government laboratory test in December last year detected twenty-two drug samples of the firm's cough syrup to be 'adulterated and spurious.'
India conducted a probe against a local pharmaceutical company after the WHO issued a global medical alert, linking the casualties of eighteen children in Uzbekistan to its cough syrups.
