An honorary consulate of Iceland was opened in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Almaz Imangaziyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Iceland's Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Aurni Thor Sigurdsson, participated in the official opening ceremony. This was reported by the correspondent of "Daryo" in the republic, referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyz diplomat congratulated the ambassador of Iceland for opening the honorary consulate of Iceland in Bishkek. He expressed his confidence about this step enabling the activation of international relations between the countries.
Imangaziyev told the ambassador about hydropower projects in the Kyrgyz Republic during the meeting.
Sigurdsson noted that Iceland is interested in various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including trade relations.
Considering the agreements concluded with France, Switzerland, and Italy on canceling visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, the Kyrgyz diplomat offered to consider the possibility of concluding such an international agreement with Iceland.
The ambassador noted that this issue is being discussed with the Icelandic side. In addition, it was pointed out that Iceland is interested in mutual agreements between Bishkek and Reykjavik on air transport and the elimination of double taxation.
An honorary consulate of Kyrgyzstan may be opened in Iceland soon.
