By the end of 2023, 18,000 student residences will be built and commissioned in Uzbekistan, Nazokat Abdukunduzova, head of the press service of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, informs.
As the number of young individuals pursuing higher education has grown, so has the demand for dormitories.
Today, the number of student residences in state higher educational institutions has increased to 287, making it possible to accommodate 109,504 students. Nevertheless, there is a demand for additional 132,000-bed student accommodation. To meet this need, according to the decree of the president, "On the implementation of the state program for the year 2022-2026, focusing on human attention and quality education", it is intended to construct and open up 18,000 student residences by the end of 2023.
In 2023, 58 projects of dormitories with a total of 28,526 beds are being implemented, including 40 with 19,576 beds based on public-private partnership, 7 with 3,450 beds at the expense of universities and budget funds, universities appropriate works are being carried out in 8 projects with 3,900 seats and three projects with 1,600 seats within the framework of the investment program.
Construction works are being carried out rapidly in 31 projects with 16,466 places in the republic. In addition, to the requirements of the time, solar panels are installed in these buildings, and the outer wall part is covered with basalt heat-providing material.
It is planned to increase the student accommodation fund by 127,000 places by the end of the year.
