The temporary restriction on onion exports was abolished in Uzbekistan, the press office of the Ministry of Agriculture informs.
With the sharp growth of onion prices, the satisfaction of domestic consumption requirements, and ensuring food security were prioritized by the government, and temporary restrictions were mounted on onion exports. This restriction has been in effect for 4 months.
According to the Ministry, the restriction was lifted prematurely because the price of onions stabilized.
It is estimated that from January 20 to April 30, the average per capita consumption requirement reaches 346,000 tons of the product.
In addition to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan also put limits on onion export. Kyrgyzstan became the first country to cancel the ban on onions in Central Asia (on March 3).
