Turkmenistan delivered 2.2bn cubic meters of gas through the Central Asia-China pipeline in January 2023, Interfax reported, citing China Customs.
"Kazakhstan has almost stopped supplying, Uzbekistan has stopped exporting completely."
The information reads that these Central Asian countries are reducing exports, directing the volumes to cover domestic market needs
The second largest supplier of pipeline gas to China is Russia, which supplied nearly 2bn cubic meters of gas through the Power of Siberia pipeline in January 2023.
At the same time, Qatar (2.2bn cm), Australia (1.9bn cm) and Russia (770mn cm) were the main LNG suppliers to China in the reporting period.
China receives Turkmen gas from three fields - Bagtyyarlyk (CNPC operates there under a Production Sharing Agreement), Malay, and Galkynysh (controlled by Turkmengaz).
Deliveries have been underway since December 2009, following the commissioning of a gas pipeline that transits through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
As of December 2022, some 340bn cm worth $60bn had been supplied from Turkmenistan to China.
