Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov plans to open a Turkmen embassy in Doha as part of his upcoming official visit to Qatar, Turkmenistan TV channel reports.
This issue was discussed at a government meeting. No time frame is specified.
"This will give a qualitatively new impetus to inter-state dialogue," the report said.
Berdimuhamedov was recently the guest of honor at the FIFA World Cup held in Doha. The Turkmen leader met with Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at one of the stadiums.
The two countries established diplomatic relations in November 1996. Two years ago, Qatar's Al Qamra Holding, which specializes in construction and agribusiness, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Turkmen government.
In 2011, Qatar signed the Ashgabat agreement to form the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-Qatar transport corridor. The project aimed to create a stable link between the Central Asian countries and the ports of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
Ashgabat is interested in the participation of Qatar's significant financial and investment structures in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, the construction of which began in December 2015.
