Recently, in Kyrgyzstan, a number of people's deputies proposed enhancing the punishment for those who rape minors. In particular, they initiated the introduction of chemical castration.
A moratorium on the death penalty has been introduced in Kyrgyzstan. In 1998, the former head of state Askar Akayev introduced a two-year moratorium on the death penalty in connection with the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Human Rights. Later, the deadline was extended again. In the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan, the death penalty has been replaced by life imprisonment.
