The non-performing loans (NPL) in the banks of Uzbekistan increased by almost 1 trillion soums, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan reports.
As of February 1, it amounted to 14.91 trillion soums, which is 990 billion soums more than at the time of the previous report. At the same time, banks' total loan portfolio in January increased by a little more than 1 trillion soums - up to 391.1 trillion soums.
In the state banking sector, NPLs remain above the general level, at 4.2% versus 2% in private banks. Uzpromstroybank became the leader in increasing NPL (347 billion soums) followed by the recently privatized Ipoteka bank (214 billion soums). Qishloq Qurilish Bank problem loans soared by 109 billion soums.
The highest share of non-performing loans among private banks belongs to Uzagroexportbank - 96.8% which Olimjon Shadiev's company recently acquired for $5 million.
UzKDB, Uzum bank and Smart bank remain the only credit institutions without problem loans.
