Earthquake survivors started moving to container cities (container homes placed in large spaces) in southern Türkiye struck by the devastating earthquakes.
Industrialists have ramped up efforts to meet the urgent shelter needs of earthquake survivors in Türkiye.
Some 13 million people were impacted by the February 6 twin tremors, which flattened thousands of buildings and have so far claimed 45,089 lives across 11 southern provinces – Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, Elazig, and Sanliurfa.
On Feb. 6, magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 quakes struck 11 provinces – Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Elazig, Hatay, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.
Apart from efforts to ensure proper temporary accommodation, the Turkish government aims to start handing over new houses to survivors within a year’s time.
