The Islamic Development Bank plans to allocate funds for the construction and repair of schools in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education reports.
There are 10,000 schools in Uzbekistan with a capacity of 5.2mn students. However, the actual number of enrolled students is 6.3mn . Moreover, about 1,250 of those schools need repairing or reconstruction.
The head of the ministry, Hilola Umarova, the head of the education branch of the Central Asia Regional Office of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Mirzai Kahagi, the regional head of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) organization, Lina Benete, and the head of the UNICEF office in Uzbekistan, met with Munir Mammedzadeh. As a result of the negotiations, it was agreed that the Islamic Development Bank will allocate funds for the construction of new schools and gyms in Uzbekistan.
