Representatives of the University of California, San Diego, and the Republican Center for Seismic Forecasting Monitoring (RCSFM) under Uzbekistan's Ministry of Emergency Situations on February 13-15 met in Tashkent and Jizzakh to plan the final implementation of the US-funded seismic monitoring station.
The station that is expected to be installed in the district-level city in spring 2023 will become part of the prestigious Global Seismic Network, the press service of the US Embassy to Uzbekistan reported on Thursday (February 16).
In mid-December, Daryo reported that the US Embassy to Uzbekistan represented by Charge d'affaires Paul Poletes delivered approximately 1,000 kg of seismic exploration equipment to the Republican Center of Seismic Forecasting Monitoring (RCSFM) under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan. Reportedly, the RCSFM jointly with the University of California in San Diego (UCSD) and the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) agreed to install a permanent seismic station at the Karasai district in Jizzakh.
