The Ambassador of Türkiye, Olgan Bekar, on Wednesday (February 8), held a briefing on the devastating earthquake that affected Türkiye and neighboring Syria, Daryo reports.
‘An earthquake occurred in a very large area. We're talking about 200,000 square kilometers as the natural disaster covered 10 provinces in Türkiye, and the earthquake adversely affected people on the other side of our border. Rescue teams continue to work to help those trapped under the rubbles’, Ambassador said to local media.
'We know that the aid team from Uzbekistan rescued people. The number of injured and dead ones is increasing every second. According to the authorities' decisions, this debris will be cleaned in the coming period. But, as I said at the beginning, since there was an earthquake covering a very wide area, we make an effort to meet the needs of both the survivors and those involved in the earthquake relief activity', Olgan Bekar stressed.
Besides, the envoy emphasized that nearly 15mn people were affected in the earthquake zone. Currently, nearly 100,000 officers are working in the field for assistance. Nearly 6,000 of those who arrived at the scenes are from abroad.
