Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent last year registered 1,200 traffic accidents which claimed the lives of 136 people. 1,463 people got injured to varying degrees of severity, media reports.
Pedestrian accidents account for 32.5% of all crashes. Children were involved in 169 accidents; 56 minors were injured and 17 died.
In addition, many accidents occurred in the past year due to drivers' non-compliance with traffic regulations. The most common violation (370 cases) was related to exceeding the speed limit. Another 143 drivers passed the prohibited traffic light signal.
8 accidents resulted from the fact that the occupants of the vehicle were drunk. 73 accidents resulted in severe consequences.
