The directors of four Central Asian national museums met in Tashkent this week and agreed to form the first-ever Council of Central Asian National Museums, the press service of the US Embassy in Tashkent has reported.
According to the diplomatic mission, the new council will formalize collaboration among the national museums of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, allowing them to share information and best practices, and exchange traveling exhibits. The idea for the council came from a grant the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan issued to the University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute (OI) for Cultural Heritage and Economic Development. The Embassy has also supported the OI to conduct pieces of training for museum conservators from Central Asia’s state museums, the message says.
