The Ministries of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on Wednesday (December 21) issued a joint statement. The message says that following the protocol inked between the two governmental bodies on March 2021, the parties mutually supply electricity following the approved schedules.
Taking into account the low water period in the Central Asian region, to prevent the drawdown of the Toktogul reservoir to a critical level, electricity produced from Turkmen gas was supplied to Kyrgyzstan under the agreements between the economic entities of the parties.
‘At the same time, under the agreements, electricity is transited from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan through the energy system of Uzbekistan on a contract basis. It should be noted that the economic entities of the parties signed contracts aimed at ensuring the transit of Turkmen's electric energy in 2023. Cooperation between the Ministries of Energy and energy companies of the two countries is implemented on the principles of mutual respect and consistency in the mode of operation of energy systems’, the statement reads.
