The European Union (EU) expressed its appreciation for the open and transparent trial of the Nukus events in July 2022.
EU is closely following the trial taking place in Bukhara where 22 people have been accused of the tragic events that took place in Karakalpakstan in early July, the EU press reports.
"We encourage the government to live up to its obligations as far as freedom of expression and freedom of assembly are concerned, including in the framework of its GSP+ commitments. We also look forward to seeing soon the outcome of the investigative commission related to Karakalpakstan events and hope that the findings will be accessible to the public. Also, we are looking forward to receiving the results of the investigation commission on the events," the statement said.
