November 24. Uzbek President convened an online meeting on a preparation stage for organizing the production of electric cars and increasing the number of charging stations in the country.
Officials proposed to exempt electric cars produced in the republic from disposal fees, their components and spare parts, equipment, and raw materials from customs duty. It is also proposed to allow investors to import a certain number of electric cars on preferential terms until the production process is fully launched.
It is envisaged that a certain part of the loan interest for the purchase of electric cars in Uzbekistan will be covered by the state. In 2023-2025, the purchase of electric cars by state administration bodies, local governments and enterprises with a state share of more than 50 per cent will be supported. Persons who provide passenger transport services in electric vehicles will be exempted from paying the state duty for a license.
One of the necessary raw materials for the production of electric cars is copper, and copper clusters are being established in Uzbekistan. Therefore, it is planned to establish a research laboratory on electric cars and their infrastructure at the Polytechnic University of Turin and to send professors and specialists to advanced countries for training.
At the meeting, the officials noted that as a result of these measures, the production of 15,000-25,000 electric cars per year can be launched in the republic.
The regulatory agency was tasked with introducing international standards for the production of electric cars and their components.
