As of July 1, 2022, the state debt of Uzbekistan amounted to 26 billion dollars. This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Finance.
The foreign debt of the country was 23.36 billion dollars, while the domestic borrowing was 2.77 billion dollars. Uzbekistan's debt made up 35.1 per cent of GDP which was 38 per cent at the end of 2021.
State foreign debt decreased by 302.9 million dollars compared to 2021. In 2020, the state debt was 23.4 billion dollars. Thus, it increased by 11% and increased to 2.9 billion dollars in 2021.
However, the share of public debt in relation to GDP decreased due to the rapid growth of GDP, i.e. by 9.4 billion dollars.
According to the International Monetary Fund's report on the country's economy, Uzbekistan's public debt is currently at a "moderate" level.
