The draft law in addition to the Law "On Citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan" put up for public discussion envisages granting the speedy Uzbek citizenship process for foreign investors who have made large direct investments.
According to the document, citizenship of Uzbekistan is granted to an individual who is a citizen of a foreign country or a stateless person and has invested at least 1 million dollars into Uzbekistan, or to a famous scientist, athlete, culture, and art figure.
According to the current law, the simplified procedure for acceptance into the citizenship of Uzbekistan is carried out in the following cases:
- If a person who lives in Uzbekistan and is a citizen of Uzbekistan, who is closely related by genealogy, has one first relative;
- has a legal source of livelihood;
- Undertakes the obligation to comply with the Constitution of Uzbekistan;
- knows the state language to the level necessary to communicate in accordance with the law.
