The team led by scientist Ahmadali Askarov discovered an ancient temple in the village of Uchtepa, Norin district, Namangan region, as part of the project to study the archaeological monuments of the "Uchtepa-Buloqmozor" complex and turn them into an open-air museum, funded by the Ministry of Innovative Development.
"Uchtepa” was called Khaylam in ancient times and was believed to be the capital of the province, located between two rivers - Karadarya and Norindarya, in the area of present-day Norin, Uchkurgan, Uychi, Namangan and Izboskan districts of Andijan.
I was born in this village; my childhood was spent among these hills. I just didn't know how old they were and what period they belonged to. Later, after my post-graduate studies, I realized that every hill here is an undiscovered treasure that testifies to the rich past of the Uzbek people. "I started studying at Uchtepa in the 60s of the last century," says the academician.
During the excavations carried out in Uchtepa, working tools, household items, figurines and stone pictures, and coins of ancient and later periods were found. But the most important news was yet to come.
"Before conducting the excavation work, we assumed that there must be a grave under the hill and riches buried in graves according to the traditions of that time. The result was even better than we expected - we came across the remains of the main Zoroastrian temple in Khaylam. The reason I say this with confidence is that exactly 70 firecrackers were found in the temple. Such a scale has not been found anywhere in the world. The scientific value and importance of the resources we have acquired are incomparable," says Akhmadali Askarov.
It should be noted that the remains of the Zoroastrian temple were covered with light constructions at the expense of funds allocated by the Namangan regional government. Nori district administration has levelled the land and built a wall in the area.
According to the scientist, it is necessary to create an environment that will provide a uniform temperature here. For this, special coatings are required that provide the complex with a temperature of 20 degrees in winter and summer. After that, you cannot worry about the future fate of this priceless treasure and mark it as a new tourist destination in Namangan.
